"Outstanding care and compassion"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

My dad sadly died after a bladder cancer operation in 2015 which was always going to be difficult because of his age and condition. I want to thank the doctor and the team and the bladder cancer nurse who looked after my dad with such patience and care. Time has given me the opportunity to come to terms with my dad's death and reflect on those last few painful hours and the care provided by the critical care teams who were all absolutely fantastic.

In particular the senior nurse on HDU who kept my father in hospital an extra day. He had been making progress but they felt that something wasn't quite right. Their experience and judgement meant that my dad would die with dignity in the right place. Most of all we can't forget a member of staff who treated my dad with such loving care and comforted me, my mum and my son in those last few painful hours as if they were part of our family. The NHS doesn't always get it right - no health sytem in the world will. However, the NHS and the people that work in it (whatever their role) is,without question, very special. As a family we will never forget the loving care you gave to us. Please pass on our thanks and gratitude to all those involved.

Firstly, please accept our heartfelt condolences on the passing of your father, but thank you for taking the time to write and thank the staff who cared for him. I am sorry that we could not do more for your father, but am pleased that you felt he was well looked after.

Here at Royal Surrey we are very proud of each member of our dedicated, caring and compassionate team and I will ensure that your message is passed on. Once again, thank you for your message.
