What I liked

One or two of the auxilary nurses were far better with communication, compassion and empathy than their qualified counterparts.

What could be improved

I was initially brought into the A&E. I was in excruciating pain, I was on the floor calling for help and another patient opposite shouted a nurse telling her I was shouting for help. The reply I heard set the scene for the rest of my time in A&E. 'We are used to it' was a reply. Three pairs of feet next surrounded me and asked me to stand up. I was in floods of tears in pain I had never felt before and I asked for pain relief to enable me to stand. The nurses were abrupt telling me to get off the floor as it was dirty and get onto the bed. I could not move! I was dragged to my feet and stood hunched over. Next they told me that I had to stand upright or get on the bed as I was 'hurting their backs!!!'. I explained that I could not stand and they did not need to hold me. I was placed on a chair and they left!

I was given pain relief a short time later and told it should work within 15mins. When I asked the young nurse what if it did not work she tutted and walked away.

I am a professional person with a career that stands for social justice, dignity, respect, and empowerment of all regardless. Are nurses not taught compassion or empathy anymore?

Absolutely the worst I have ever been treated, totaly disgusted with the nurses attitudes. The only consolation was the young doctor on A&E that night who did his up most best to make me comfortable.

This hospital department needs some retraining to ensure that the needs of patients are met. I would be interested to see whether emotional intelligence is a module on the nursing course because these nurses certainley had none!

Anything else?

Training that is equally patient led and medical led! The patient knows how much pain they have not an onlooker oh sorry 'nurse'.

If this expierence is not posted then how can anyone, even for statistical purposes, get a true picture of expectations of Preston Hospital?

Vets treat animals better!
