"Hanging on the telephone"

About: City Hospital (Birmingham)

It took a determined effort and 10 minutes to get through to switchboard.

I then got put through to a member of staff that hadn't a clue and passed me off to some other person, that then finally got me through to someone who could help.

All I wanted to know was where my friend was (which ward).

How can you cope in a real emergency, if this is your performance when the switchboard is having a normal day?

We are sorry.

Our switchboard team usually manages calls very quickly.

We recently reorganised timetables to better fit peak periods.

We will keep up that effort.
