My wife was referred to a gastroenterologist in March 2015. He then referred her to a surgeon to check the gallbladder and decide if it needs removing. He then had ct scans done and decided she had a porcelain gallbladder and it needed to be removed as soon as possible. She then saw a couple more consultants and the last one told her that the porcelain gallbladder could be cancerous and that it will be removed in 2/3 weeks that was in the middle of 2015. She then got an appointment in October 2015 for a pre-op and was then later given an appointment to have the gallbladder removed in January 2016.
She then received a phone call from the consultants secretary cancelling the operation due to no theatre staff on operation day. They made another appointment for the operation and had to go for another pre- op appointment. Then, she received a phone call saying the operation has yet again been cancelled due partly to the junior doctors strikes, but I phoned the elective treatment centre on the 22nd March to confirm that she will be attending for the operation on the 24th and they assured me that the op will go ahead defiantly this time and then we get that phone call on the 23rd. Surely this is not right to make somebody suffer with all this pain and worry (about the cancer statement) and then keep pulling the rug from under her? So if this hospital can keep cancelling surely she should be entitled to have this operation done privately and quickly at the expense of the NHS seeing that the consultant planted the seed about cancer and the added worry of that and the pain?
