"Thank you"

About: New Cross Hospital

Early hours Sunday morning my 4 year old son woke up and was struggling to breathe and making a strange noise when he coughed. Me and my husband had no idea what it was and called 999 the phone staff was very calming and with in minutes the ambulance was here. The paramedics that arrived were very friendly and calming with my little boy and knew he had croup straight away. They were so good and had my little boy at hospital in no time explaining everything to me in detail. When we arrived at hospital the doctor was waiting for us and examined my little boy straight away, he was given some steroids and put on a machine to monitor his oxygen. While we was in A&E the nurses was in checking on him all the time, they brought him books and colouring things. They were all really friendly and made him smile which helped keep him calm until he fell asleep at 4am. They then moved him up to the children's ward where the nurses did all their checks on him and they was so gentle with him he never even woke up. The doctors came with in 10 minutes of us being up there explained to me all about croup and said they wanted him to stay for a further 6 hours so they could keep an eye on him. The nurses then set the chair up for me so I could lie by the side of him. My son woke up about 8.30am and within 10 minutes he had a jug of water and toast. We then waited for the doctor to come round who examined him and said he was able to go home. They gave me some information and the number to the ward and told me any problems to give them a ring. I just want to thank the paramedics, nurses and doctors at new cross who dealt with my son, they were all brilliant not only in taking good care of my boy but keeping me informed and calm at a very stressful time. I only wish I had got all their names so I could name them but my son's name is Jacob Morrison and if any of you read this Thank You........
