As I have reached a certain age I was recently invited for Bowel Screening at the Endoscopy Unit in Torbay Hospital.
Very daunted at the idea I arrived to a friendly welcome at reception.
Throughout the process the staff were friendly and informative, put me at ease and answered all of my questions plus some I didn't ask.
As the procedure progressed I was talked through everything and when I asked questions they were answered and explained, sometimes humerously which helped someone with my sense of humour.
The procedure was slightly uncomfortable but gas and air is available if you want it.
I certainly wouldn't do it for fun but at the end of I got a clean bill of health.
I would advise everyone to take up the offer of screening, however embarrassed they may be.
My brother-in-law had bowel screening a few years ago, had no symptoms and found out he did in fact have bowel cancer.
He has since been treated and is 100% clear.
A big thank you to the staff who worked on the evening of Wednesday 16th March 2016, a day never to be forgotten!
