"Looked after really well after 2 operations in..."

About: Lister Hospital

Was admitted on 15/2/2016 for a neck dissection and re-admitted on 25/2/16 due to a bleed. I was delighted with every aspect of my treatment, from initial admission through to theatre, surgery and post-operative care on Ward 11 B North. All staff, including the surgeon and anaesthetists, answered all my questions and were extremely helpful, staff at all levels on the ward were professional and dedicated. The doctor on the ward at the weekend was particularly helpful. The standard of cleanliness and catering was also good. I was impressed by the way I was re-admitted in A&E and looked after in the SAU. I am particularly grateful to the doctor who came in specially at 10 o'clock at night to operate on me. I cannot speak too highly of all the nursing staff on the ward who work so effectively under sometimes demanding conditions. I should also add that I have been happy with my hospital treatment as an outpatient with regular check-ups over a period of many years. This hospital has made real progress since I was first a patient there in 2003. The only entirely unsatisfactory aspect of my treatment was the pharmacy which took around 7 hours to prepare my medications (including Metformin) on the day of discharge. The pharmacy is simply not fit for purpose in this respect. I experienced similar problems even 13 years ago. Something must change.

Many thanks for the kind words, which we have just fed back to all the teams involved in your care at the Lister during your recent stays at the hospital.

We know that they will be so pleased to read what you've written and will join with us in wishing you a speedy and full recovery.

Whilst we note your comments about the pharmacy, we know that the team is working hard to improve its services.

It is important to note that often the delay does not rest with them but the speed with which prescriptions leave wards and arrive with them to get ready for patients to take home.

Some prescriptions are complex and need time from a pharmacist to ensure the medicines prescribed by a patient's doctor are fulfilled correctly - so if there is a delay in prescriptionns reaching pharmacy, this can cause further problems. But rest assured, the team is working with its clinical colleagues to try and prevent such problems where they can.
