"Children's ward is a no-no for me"

So I took my 8 month old son to A&E after he's had a very high temperature, cough, sore throat and stomach pain. The process getting to the ward itself was horrific n draining especially with a child that has been ill for a week but that's not the reason I'm writing this review.

I was taken into the ward n after a 10 minute wait taken in by one of the nurses for an assessment. When asking me to come into the room the nurse addressed me as 'you wanna come in' no names used even though they had all my details in their hands..cold impression straight away.I wouldn't have known the nurse was speaking to me had my husband not said I think they're talking to you.. I looked up n the nurse pointed towards the door. I

Sat down n was told to explain why I was there..the nurse listened but their attitude was very 'cant be bothered' n then introduced themself n told me that they wud be the nurse looking after us. Which is felt should have been the first thing they said. I didnt feel confident to be in the care of this nurse but foe the sake of my baby i decided to stay...After the assessment I was told to take a seat back in waiting area as the nurse would test the urine sample I had given them. The nurse never came back with the results and never mentioned what the next step would be.

The nurse went n sat back down at the nurses station n they started talking among themselves, the language used was appalling n I had to move myself further away so I couldn't hear them. After 2 hours of waiting in the waiting room with no staff coming to give me an update or ask if we are ok...with my poorly baby who at this point had been crying for over an hour I got up n asked what I was doing here..was I going to get a bed as my baby really couldn't be expected to sleep on a chair..bare in mind he has a very high temp and doesn't want to be picked up. and it is 1am in morning. I am told that they are waiting for a doctor to assess him n that there has been a hold up due to someone needing surgery. I explained to him about my child's situation and how he was getting more and more agitated. One nurse apologised that no one made me aware of this and asked if there is anything I can do to help..they were very kind and caring.

Within 20 mins a doctor arrived n I am assessed n sent home. 7 and a half hour wait could have been made more pleasent if the staff working on the ward actually took the time to ask people in the waiting area if they are OK n if they needed anything. Little things make all the difference. This has definitely made me sure I never want to come back to the children's ward n I would rather take my child elsewhere.
