My partner was admitted after surgery to remove a gist . I was informed that he would be going from the recovery ward to ward c7 so I was given his belongings and I went off to the ward . First impressions I was looked at by any staff member I saw who then ignored me , I asked a staff member who I believe was a hca about my partner and explained that I was told he would be going to the ward , the response I got was well he may not even have a bed so there's no guarantee he will come here even though his name was clearly on the board . , I tried to explain - being as calm as I could be after sitting around worried for 6 hrs already that I had all his belongings which were too heavy for me to carry around .To say I was putting this staff member out was an understatement! Well they said you can leave it here but like I said he hasn't even hit a bed yet and if he ain't coming here you'll have to get the porter to collect his stuff!
Insensitive , unprofessional and a disgraceful attitude .
When we were taken up to the ward ( after the charge nurse in recovery had to tell the ward my partner had been in recovery for nearly 5 hrs and they didn't want to take him fit another 45 minutes ) the lack of empathy from any of the hca was non existent
I've had nothing but praise for Addenbrooke's , my son and daughter have both didn't time as inpatients but this ward has disappointed me to the fact I'm dreading going in there tomorrow because I was not happy leaving my partner there in his vulnerable state
If staff cannot show a little empathy , warmth and respect then maybe they out to choose another profession!
"Not the best start"
