"Removal of School Nurse Provision"

About: Bromley Healthcare / School Nursing

(as a service user),

Our experience with the School Nurse system has been entirely positive. It is a proactive and supportive service providing:

General advice and guidance

Specific advice linked to Public Health England guidance e. g. during a recent Measles outbreak

Support for children with additional needs in order to meet their health needs whilst in school

Advice and help on specific and acute child health care

General advice to support the healthy schools initiative

A route of access for parents to NHS provision for their children

They are a key stakeholder, within the Academy, in ensuring continued shared support in all health matters. Without this service we feel the continued physical and mental wellbeing of our children in our Academy will be compromised. A reactive provision would result in the children’s needs only being met when a crisis point is reached.

Thank you for your posting and your appreciation of our dynamic school nurse provision.

As yet a final decision has not been made about the true future of the service to schools in Bromley. Due to financial constraints the London Borough of Bromley have been forced to consider this, in our opinion, drastic action.

The school nurse service is vital in supporting the health and well being of all of the Boroughs children especially the most vulnerable. The knock on effect of any decision may have a significant impact on the future well being of young people and this is something that Bromley Healthcare have have expressed their views about to the local authority.

We are awaiting a final, crucial decision

Kind regards

Amanda
