"Son contracted meningistis whilst on field trip"

About: East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust

Our son is a university student and was taken poorly whilst on a field trip. He was rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he received 5* treatment. We live in Gloucestershire so it took us 3 hours to reach him but when we arrived they had already performed a CT scan and had blood test results and were giving him the antibiotics that are needed so early in this illness to give the best possible outcome.

He was later admitted to Critical Care and we were allocated a relatives room which provided us with a private base to rest.

We noticed how clean the hospital was and how caring and friendly all the staff were right from consultant level to parking attendant. The team were well organised and efficient and happy to talk us through everything and explain if we didn't understand and answer our many questions.

We had many meals in the hospital canteen and found it very reasonable and the food was excellent.

The parking rates were very reasonable to compared to our hospital parking charges locally.

Overall we had amazing service at the hospital and we felt our son was in very safe hands - they are a fantastic friendly team with big hearts...!

Many many thanks to you all and we are pleased to say our son is now making amazing progress at home and hopes to continue his studies after Easter.
