"Too slow to wait for paediatric blood test"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

My son has not slept properly for 3 wks now and the GP has requested blood tests to determine whether there is a medical cause.

He is going to school in tears because he is shattered and the only thing I can do for him is get him his blood test.

Can you imagine how it feels to have to tell him that the first appt he can have is 2 wks away.

Especially knowing that one of the tests take 2-3 wks to come back.

How can that be called an acceptable service??

I was really sorry to read your post about your son.

This must be a very worrying time for you and a wait for this sort of test is a distress.

I hope you read my response and get in touch with us, so we can look into this for you.

I don't work with the clinical teams, so I'm not sure why the wait is two weeks to have bloods taken, although I am aware it is a specialist role where children are involved and there may presently be a high-demand (but I wouldn't want to second guess). Our Assistance and Complaints Service team will be able to liaise with the children's team for you.

You can call them on 01246 512640.

With kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint, Head of Communications
