"Waited more than 6 hours to see an A&E doctor"

About: Barnet Hospital

I visited the A&E department on a Saturday morning at 2.20am on the advice of NHS111.

I was seen reasonably quickly by the nurses - the first for assessment and the second for blood tests.

After waiting for an incredible 6 hours without being seen by a doctor, I asked them how much longer I had to wait and was informed there are 4 patients in the queue ahead of me.

I was so exhausted by that time that I just left.

Another girl also waiting to be seen by a doctor could not wait any longer and left in tears.

I have been to the A&E here a few times previously because of my children and have always had to wait hours to be seen by a doctor and to be discharged.

I cannot imagine the wait had I stayed - I heard some of the patients commenting they have been there more than 8 hours!

Thank you for your review and we're really sorry to hear you're unhappy. We try to see patients as quickly as possible, unfortunately during times of high demand we do experience long waiting times. We will pass your feedback on to the department and if you would like to speak to someone about this in more detail please contact our PALS team on 020 8216 4924 or bcfpals@nhs.net.
