"Problem accessing GP"

About: Cheshire, Warrington and Wirral

(as the patient),

Poor appointment system at Readsmoore Surgery Congleton. Appointment line used to open at 08.00 which was fair as the telephone line wasn't switched on until 08.00. Appointments now are from 14.00, however, this line is open all day so people start queueing well before 14.00 as there is no way of stopping the tel queue. Huge tel queues so by the time you get through appointments are gone. Receptionist suggested my best chance of an appointment was to visit the surgery (not everyone can of course do this). I took time from my lunch to walk to the surgery and waited at the side of reception with 5 other people who also out of desperation had come to the surgery. By the time the gentleman in front of me got an appointment at 14.04 all the appointments had been taken by the telephone people who are being answered as not able to control when people start ringing. He was very angry as like me he had made a special journey as the telephone system is failing the patients. I was lucky as I didn't mid which doctor I saw but I felt so upset by the situation I had to do something. The appointment system is not working and as said before is failing the patients and especially all those who are not able to attend the surgery to make an appointment. This is a serious failing that needs resolving urgently.
