Went down with a bad dose of tonsillitis last week.
Some improvement on Wednesday was followed by rapid deterioration on Thursday as a peritonsillar abscess (quinsy) formed in my neck.
By midnight I was in distress, virtually unable to swallow and starting to experience breathing problems.
Just after midnight I rang NHS 111.
They took details and rang back in ten minutes.
An appointment with their GP at Wythenshawe was arranged fifteen minutes later (so soon I couldn't quite make it on time).
I was seen quite quickly and referred to ENT.
ENT took bloods, stabilised my basics and had a surgeon attempting the very tricky aspiration within a couple of hours.
I was admitted, given more treatment before being discharged before lunch in far better condition than the dire state I arrived in.
Excellent work all round.
The only down side was that ENT is the opposite end of the hospital to A&E, so it was a long walk back to my [abandoned] car. Lovely to breath in all that fresh air though!
