I had an elective hip replacement last week. I was from out of area as my local specialist would not operate as they thought i was too high risk. I was referred to the doctor and after many tests, the doctor decided I was fit for surgery. I am pleased to say the operation was a complete success, butt my main reason for this review is because of how wonderful my experience at DCH was. I was involved in any decisions and had everything explained to me before it happened. I would single out the theatre team for this in particular. They were reassuring, caring and empathetic at all times. I recovered in Ridgeway ward and the care was outstanding. At no time was i made to feel that any request i made was unreasonable, despite how busy they were. Too single out anyone member of staff is difficult, but i must mention the trained nurses and HCA's Thank you alll and cleaners, all led by the Sister. Especial thanks to the member of staff for handling a very challenging patient who was causing other patients distress, with compassion, fairness and authority.
