"ME specialist nurse service Fife"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

Brillant support for my daughter who had a very bad flare which ended up with her being bed bound. Her ME specialist nurse stepped in to help the family when the consultants G P s all thought she had a mental health problem and tried to get her sectioned.

The consultant from queen Margaret came out and said no mental health issues this is a physical illnesses! He came to the case conference and explained her symptoms both in ME terms and the symptoms that did not fit the pattern. This lead to my daughters re admission to the Victoria with the advanced support and knowledge given to the ward by Keith. He fought to have her tested the result was POTS as well as ME without him my daughter would still have a label and no apology from the consultants and GPs who had jumped to the wrong conclusion.

He continues to support her with her ongoing challenges without him for knowledge and down to earth guidance she would be more on the phone to her new G P as this is a nasty disability which flags up different symptoms all the time.

What could be improved? mutual respect works in all directions.  Other professionals need to look out of the box, when specialist nurse highlights concerns,  listen.

Dear Lily Smith

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your daughter's experience. It is great to hear that Keith has been so supportive, at what must have been a very worrying time for you all. I understand these are complex conditions and it can be very difficult to make a diagnosis. In situations like this, it is very important to listen to all perspectives to ensure all appropriate avenues are explored. I am glad to hear that your daughter's condition is now better undertood. I will make sure your post is forwarded to the appropriate teams for information and consideration.

Thank you once agin for taking the time to post

Regards

Louise Ewing
