"Painful Colonoscopy"

I have had two colonoscopies in my life. They were the most agonisingly painful experiences of my life, and I have had two children one by caesarian and the second naturally. There is no comparison to the pain of a colonoscopy, but the medical profession administer drugs in the hopes that the patient will not remember the excruciating agony of the process.

This drug did not work for me on either occasion. I have been left with PTSD from the procedures and it has changed my personality. I feel so much anger towards the people performing this procedure. They know that it is painful, but they hope the drugs will make you forget it. It is not acceptable to subject someone to this level of pain whilst drugging them into forgetting it.

I feel that this procedure should only be performed under general anaesthetic when they can be sure that no one will suffer the unbelievable pain nor be traumatised by their experience. I felt that the staff present during the procedure knew what they are doing to me, they were telling me to breathe through it, but they did not stop when told to, because they thought I wouldn't remember what they put me through.
