I was referred to Hinckley and District Opthalmology Clinic by my optician because my cataract was affecting my life especially reading. My appointment was 16 December and after a sight test and a chat my doctor approved my cataract surgery. The staff at all levels were excellent, professional, kind and caring, efficient and knowledgeable.
The date of my surgery was 1 March on the John Atkins day care ward. My surgeon discussed my case before I went to theatre; they were cautious because my eye was very short sighted, has astigmatism and hasn’t worked properly since I was a child, the consultant told me they would take it slowly to ensure success. I was treated with kindness on the ward while I waited for my surgery, the nursing staff, theatre staff, anaesthetist and surgeon were faultless and I felt confident in their hands. My surgeon was very pleased with the way the surgery went and in an hour or so I was ready for my daughter to collect me.
It is a week now since my cataract surgery and I am thrilled; I had no post-operative pain, no bruising, no bleeding, no headaches and for the first time in 56 years I can see using both my eyes, it’s been an extraordinary experience all round.
The care I have received at Hinckley and District hospital for a number of conditions is superb, I cannot fault it and I have been treated at four or five hospitals in several counties. I wish that University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust would use this valuable asset as an example for all their other units.
