"Breastfeeding Support Team"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Community Maternity Care

(as a service user),

After having quite a few days feeding trouble with my 3 week old little girl and many sleepless nights, I was ready to throw in breastfeeding towel until I contacted the breastfeeding support ladies. Within 24 hours of contacting them and explaining out difficulties, a lovely member of the team was out at the house for a visit to observe a feed and immediately she told me our latch was all wrong and stayed with me during the remainder of the feed and helped correct our latch. Now 24 hours after the visit we have one happy full bellied baby and one very happy and rested mummy!

I honestly would no longer be breastfeeding if it weren't for the Lanarkshire Breast Support Team (Carluke area), all members of the team are an absolute credit to the NHS and I reckon if more areas had such a fantastic service like this one then I'm sure many more women would breastfeed!

Dear Asil25,

I am delighted to hear that the support you have received at this crucial time from our Breastfeeding Support Service helped you both, some women do encounter some challenges and it can take time for some babies to learn, they are precious individuals. A rested mummy and contented baby sounds very good to me and I am sure with this support, this will continue for you both.

NHS Lanarkshire has invested in continuing to provide 24/7 telephone support and additional support in hospital and at home, therefore, it is so good to know that your home visit made all the difference to you both to support you to continue to breastfeed.

I know the team will be delighted to receive this feedback, so thank you for contacting us and we are so proud to know that the person centred care and support has helped you both.

As you have shared this positive story with others you will be helping us to encourage other women to breastfeed. Wishing you both well and enjoy.

Best wishes

Wendy
