"Relatives experience of care at Lings Bar Hospital"

About: Lings Bar Hospital / Inpatient Nursing and Rehab (Lings Bar)

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

My Father was admitted to Lings Bar for rehabilitation following a period of illness and hospital admission at City Hospital.

The care he received was excellent and he has made good progress in terms of regaining strength. He received regualar physio and encouragment and had a daily plan of action that was updated once the goals had been achieved. He went from not being able to get out of bed on his day of arrival to going home walking with a frame, Dad is now walking mostly with a stick.

Food choices where also considerably better than in the previous hospital.

The only possible improvement that could be suggested is that there where times where I felt that as an elderly and mature patient my Dad was not always treated as someone who was capable of making his own choices (ie bedtimes/getting up times/medication times etc), however I recognise that in a hospital/rehab facility that this is not always feasable or possible.

All in all my Dad has made remarkable progress during the time he spent in Lings Bar and this is down to the patience and skill of the physios and staff who cared for him.

Thank you

Thank you for your posting.

I am delighted your Father has made excellent progress and is continuing to improve with his mobility.

Staff teams work hard to ensure patients receive the best care possible and I am pleased the encouragement, care and therapy goals have had a positive outcome.

Over the last 12 months we have worked hard to improve meal choices for patients and I am pleased you found the menu to be of benefit.

I will discuss the issue of patient choice with the Ward Managers.

We do have routine medication rounds to ensure treatments have a sufficient time gap between administrations, but will explore how we can extend patient choice in other areas.

I will ensure your comments are passed onto the ward and catering team, and hope your Father continues to improve.

Thank you
