"Family Support and 123 Magic"

About: Retford Central Children's Centre

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I accessed the Family Support Service for support around behaviour management.

We tried different strategies from Incredible years, such as ignoring and distraction and was given emotional support.

' The FSW showed me great support emotionally and helped me to overcome my own fears. She taught me to understand my children better and not to get stressed. Couldn't have asked for better support'.

What was the biggest difference?

'Myself, I realised the children were not naughty but I had no control because I didn't know how to manage their behaviour'.

I also attended 123 Magic to share ideas with other parents and made some great relationships within this group.

As all parents know, children don't come with an instruction manual so having access to the right information, support and guidance is crucial. Whether we are starting a new job or studying we are given a vast amount information and practice before taking on responsibility... so why not practice parenting skills?

it sounds like the parenting course helped you build upon your existing techniques and learn new ones. Effective parenting is one of the most important elements of ensuring your children have the best start in life and help to ensure family relationships are strong. It is good to know that the programme has been so beneficial in helping you manage behaviour and it is an added bonus to hear that you have also made friendships which will hopefully last for years to come.
