"Long wait for operation in Scarborough"

About: Scarborough General Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

My story began when i visited my gp last year as i had realised my hearing had deteriorated. My gp referred me to the hospital. My appointment with the doctor at the hospital was in August 2009.

The doctor i saw was insistent that i required an operation investigating my mastoid, which i agreed to. I received an operating date at the begining of December 2009 which was fine, I organised three weeks off work, childcare and my degree course.

But to my disappointment i recieved a cancellation letter three days before i was due to go into hospital. I rang the hospital to enquire when my next date would be and i was shocked to be told that they did not know due to the Doctor taking a holiday and then leaving the hospital.

I did recieve another date for my operation for a week before christmas which i had to cancel as i was unable to get time off work and in all fairness i did not want to be ill over christmas.

We are now coming to the end of January and i am still waiting to receive an operating date. I do make regular contact with the waiting list department just to be told there are no dates as yet. So much for the 18 weeks policy.
