"Endoscopy on a Saturday"

About: Good Hope Hospital

I had a problem passing black stools indicating that there was some blood coming from somewhere and was referred for an Endoscopy which I had on Saturday in the treatment centre.

The service was absolutely first rate. The facilities were clean, the nursing staff were caring, compassionate, efficient and friendly and the consultant who was working on a Saturday was very kind. I must confess I cant say much more than that because I opted for sedation and when the drugs went in, I went out.

I do however have complaint which was to do with admin and not the service I received. I did not receive any notice of the procedure in advance. It was only because my GP had suggested I should chase that I called the hospital a few days before and found out the appointment had been made. Had I note called I would, very probably, not have turned up and wasted everyone's time and energy.

The reason the letter never arrived was because, for some reason, the invite had been addressed to an address that I lived at 38 years ago. Apparently, I had a hospital number from Heartlands (from when it was East Birmingham Hospital) and all of the documentation had been generated under that incorrect number. I only mention this because when I left the recovery room I was given a yellow piece of paper with the results of the test on and I noticed that they also had the wrong hospital number, the address I lived at 38 years ago and, more worryingly, no details about my GP.

I am posting this review because I could not fault the process but also because I hope someone at the hospital might read it and let me know how I can ensure that the results of my test goes to my GP and not to some address in Redditch that I moved out of in 1979.
