"my stay 2...3th March 2016"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

Following surgery for the removal of a growth under a TBTR procedure I was sent to Hopkins ward after coming round in Recovery. The staff, both medical and nursing were excellent

in the way they treated me. Having been told that the growth removed was most likely to be cancerous one's mind is both emotional and fragile. Sadly the excellent work was undone by the attitude of a nurse who was assigned to my care on the morning of Thursday 3rd March. The nurse who appeared to be just going through the motion of nursing and as far as I could observe spent most of the time sauntering round the ward. They offered to remake my bed and change the linen, this process took well over an hour whilst I had to sit on a beside chair suffering with cold and anxiety.

I thought had been possibly called away to deal with a situation far more urgent than just making my bed, but no, they appeared a number of times sauntering past my side-room

with apparently nothing else to do. Eventually I had to ask them to finish off my bed which later they did. I mentioned this to one of the other nurses who said they were Agency employed. It appeared to me they were there just for the money!

Later during the day I experienced great difficulty and pain after the removal of a catheter

and I had to ask for assistance and help from other staff members which was immediately

given. Such a pity that a single incident by a nurse who was to me simply 'going through the motions' undid the excellent work of the other dedicated staff.

Thank you for providing such balanced feedback; we will make sure the Urology team see your post - they will be pleased to know their care was well received. We are very sorry to hear about your experiences on the 3rd of March; we do usually have very good support from agency staff but please be assured that your feedback will be acted upon.
