"Maxillofacial surgery for wisdom teeth removal."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

What an absolute farce! I called up yesterday morning before I was due for surgery to at first be told they weren't sure if it was going ahead due to the swine flu outbreak. I was then called back to be ensured it was deffinately going ahead.

I had organised days off work, someone to cover my time off. My children to be looked after and my family to help me having a day off also taking me back and forth to the hospital.

I arrived at Theatre arrivals and was taken into my room where I was seen by my surgeon and anaesthtist, who went through what will happen (very rushed) I was told at 9am I was second in and to get my gown on and get ready to go down to theatre.

10am I was told the lady in before me had finished in surgery and I was just waiting to be called (any minute now) I waited and waited.,

11am I asked again what was going on, and was told again I was waiting for a bed.

12pm I asked again when I was due to go down to theatre to be told they weren't sure what was going on. By this time the afternoon appointments were turning up.

After realised that most of the afternoon appointments were leaving the ward, I was then told to get dressed back into my clothes and that my surgery had been cancelled due to a lack of beds! I understand there are emergencys but I know that at least 15 operations had been cancelled and surely this situation was a known fact, one that could of been resolved maybe a day earlier and I would of been able to change all of the arrangements I had made!

Totally disorganised and I don't have any faith in this hospital at all after this.

One lady has told me she has been 3 times already and cancelled again...

i have no faith and no trust in the NHS. I pay national insurance and work full time being a single mother for what? Let down... Very upset!

Thank you for the review you left for the Maxillofacial Service.

We are very sorry that your operation was cancelled after advising you that it would be going ahead.

Often there are other factors beyond a specific department's control that can and do have a knock-on effect, however we do understand your frustration.

We are sorry that you feel ‘upset and let down’ this is certainly not our aim.

We hope that your next appointment goes a lot more smoothly.

Best wishes, Communications Team, Leicester's Hospitals.
