"Death of my mother"

About: Knighton Hospital

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to Knighton Community Hospital in April 2015. She had had a fall and her live in carer needed changes made to her bungalow to enable her to manage mum.

Mum died in the hospital 5 days later. The care she and we as her relatives received was exemplary, other than an unnecessary and traumatic 24 hours in the local A and E Dept.

When it was clear mum was dying she, and we were removed to a large room with a fantastic view of the surrounding hills. Staff brought us tea and sandwiches, and checked on things, otherwise we were left in peace. We were asked what she might eat. I suggested tinned tomato soup. The hospital kitchen did not stock this, but said they would heat and serve it if we bought a tin. Such simple things make a big difference. In the end she did not drink the soup, just passed gently away. Staff very kind and sympathetic, many had known mum in earlier years. Perfect end of life care
