"Car parking"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as other),

I do realise that driving to the new hospital is a self-inflicted nightmare and patients are strongly advised not to, but yesterday I made the mistake of trying it. It's not just that there are insufficient parking spaces, but the car parks are SO badly designed. P2, the multi-storey, has no barrier control so there is nothing to stop cars continuing to pour in even once it's totally full, and then there is gridlock. There was a man in high vis standing at the entrance observing all of this but doing nothing. The flat car park near A&E (P3) is appallingly laid out so that cars get blocked into dead ends in the search for spaces and can't get back out again. After 45 minutes of misery trying to park I eventually abandoned the whole thing. I can see a new multi-storey is being built, but an electronic system to show where spaces are, and proper control, are essential.

Dear gezza1

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I am sorry to hear about the difficulty you had in finding a car parking space at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and appreciate how frustrating this must have been for you. While we are limited in how we can change the physical nature of the car parks you have raised a good point about the management of the car parks and that this could be improved to reduce the frustration that you have described.

I will pass on your feedback to my colleagues in Facilities.

Best wishes

Lisa
