"A case of over marring"

About: Rotherham PCT / Nutritional services (feeds and supplements)

(as the patient),

I am a patient of the renal unit at Sheffield Northern. My dialysis is at Rotherham and my dietician at Sheffield. The Sheffield dietician prescribes for me but I then have to ring Rotherham to get my nutritional supplements. It seems to me that this is a case of over marring when I could get a prescription from Sheffield. I get asked by Rotherham staff do I still need them when it's Sheffield staff who are prescribing them.

I support the organisation in making sure that the voice of patients and the public is heard and used in planning services. This involves running events, managing surveys, and building networks with the local community.

Sorry for the delau in replying to you. I had to look into some information about these services before I could reply to your post.

"The dialysis unit at Rotherham is under the management of Sheffield Hospitals even though it is built on our Rotherham site for convenience of patients. As a patient living in Rotherham your GP prescribes for your care. As the Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Rotherham now manages the budget for supplements, this is why you obtain your ‘Dietetic Prescription Request’ for supplements from the Dietitian rather than your GP. The Dietitian you see in Sheffield would normally liaise with the GP, but with our process liaises with the Dietitians in Rotherham, and therefore you will not be able to get a prescription directly from the Dietitian looking after your renal care.

We hope this clarifies these issues raised."

If you would like to discuss this with us further, please contact either myself of the service, and we would be happy to talk to you.
