"First ever hospital experience for 5 nights in..."
About: Whiston Hospital Whiston Hospital Prescot L35 5DR
As it was my first experience I have nothing to compare, when I arrived as a referral from the doctor I was dreading the wait when I seen the waiting room but I thought it went fairly quickly before I seen a doctor. I was then kept in and transferred to ward 2d. I think that the hospital overall is a nice hospital as it is fairly new the surroundings are pleasant and the hospital is very clean. some things are like clockwork, the cleaners, the catering staff, 5pm prompt you receive a Dinner etc and the menu to choose from is very good. Some of the nurses are really polite and go out of there way to make you comfortable.
There are some nurses who want to do very little and it is clear that at times the ward was understaffed, for example I witnessed someone waiting to be taken to the toilet, he must of waited nearly one hour. someone waiting for a urine bottle again nearly an hour. things do seem very slow, I waited nearly a whole day for cream from the pharmacy, I waited nearly a whole day for my original prescription to treat the symptoms that I had been admitted for, hence delayed treatment by nearly a whole day. another patient waited nearly a day for painkillers and was in some pain, the speed of pharmacy to wards needs some looking into.
In 5 days that I was a patient I was twice given the wrong dose of medication, first time I even queried it and was told that It was right, it wasn't! the second time I wasn't budging, a bit simple really when it says 2 tablets twice a day and they only give you one?
I do want to say however that this is not a negative review I was very happy with the overall care I received,
I was just a little alarmed that twice in 5 days I was given the wrong dosage of medication. The ward has some really nice staff it's just understaffed too often or has nurses who go missing. Someone would ring the request bell and it would ring for ages and ages, someone would call the ward and the phone would just ring out.
The ward has good facilities, two baths etc. The cleaners and catering staff are a real credit to the hospital, they cheer up the patients and really do look like they enjoy their job.
