"Antenatal Clinic"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

I have still to have my baby, due in May 2016. I am very happy with the maternity team at RBH and have found them all approachable and professional. However, I have to say I find it so off putting as I pregnant woman myself and non smoker I have to walk past a handful of people (some pregnant themselves) smoking in the entrance of the antenatal clinical, it's disgusting.

There are 'no smoking' signs which are obviously not effective.

I think this diminishes the good work of the employees and let's down the hospital especially at the maternity unit where I feel I have the right to be in a smoke free environment.

Firstly please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to this. We are pleased that you are happy with the care you are getting. The issue of people -- including pregnant women -- smoking outside the unit, is something we and indeed most hospitals have been grappling with for some years. We do use a number of things to deter people from smoking in such an inappropriate place. This includes staff moving smokers on, random visits by our security staff, and we also have stop smoking services and advice available. Unfortunately some people persist in smoking, and without a permanent presence of our staff at all entrances to the hospital, it is difficult to eradicate smoking all the time.
