"Thankyou to all the staff"

About: Marie Stopes International Essex Centre

Making this decision was heartbreaking for me I've always wanted a baby and was quite far along 17weeks so having an abortion was very distressing however it wasn't the right time for a baby in my life. After speaking to multiple people on the phone all understanding, calm and supportive (every single one wished me the best) I turned up for my appointment and saw two people setting horrible pictures up outside admittedly this made me want to stop and go home I cried for a while on a bench outside after my boyfriend had convinced me to go in at least and see how I felt I had made myself late! They didn't mention me being late and took me to the waiting room after 10 minutes I was taken to speak with someone who was friendly and really easy to talk to I had a scan and saw nothing although I kind of wanted to! After 15 minutes I said bye to my boyfriend and was taken upstairs. I was given a recliner chair, blanket, slippers, sarong and a heat pack I was then given a drug to soften my cervix which takes a few hours so I sat there and watched the TV I felt absolutely fine although some girls did feel sick. A person came and spoke to me after the few hours and made me go to the toilet they explained everything and then took me to the operating room I was laid on the bed with everyone happy and talking to me a nice person kept me all covered and lifted my legs then I woke up in a chair with absorbent knickers on! No distress, treated with dignity and respect and no memory of any of it.

After waking up I cried for a second as I was tired and confused at waking up like that! A nurse gave me a heat pack with a tea and biscuits and encouraged me to wake up after a while I had to check my bleeding it was a little heavy so I stayed for another 15 minutes or so during that time I was chatting to a lovely bubbly person who had just had the same done which was comforting and made me feel less alone at that moment. Once the bleeding was fine I was taken back to my boyfriend and went home. The 24hr helpline was very useful as I'd forgotten if I needed to take my antibiotics with food or not and the nurse was very helpful. I was so afraid after reading negative reviews of the clinic but please don't be discouraged! I was treated exceptionally well by everyone I spoke to. It's not a pleasant experience but marie stopes makes you feel as comfortable as possible! My emotional recovery was surprisingly much easier than I'd expected and the physical was very quick after a day I felt completely normal. Thankyou to all the staff for your continued support before during and after.
