"General overview of treatment at various times..."

About: The Tunbridge Wells Hospital

Due to my husband's chronic lung disease over 6/7 years we have had a lot of appointments for his care at the respiratory department. He was always well cared for firstly by the consultants and their respiratory nurse. After a shaky start at the beginning of his illness it soon settled down into efficient appointments where we had very little waiting around for appointments etc. Last March he was admitted to A and E with severe breathing problems and it was apparent that his life was drawing to a close. Beds were no beds and it was decided to care for him in that department. They got a bed for him and he was given the most loving care from the medical team and died at lunchtime. One of my daughters who is a midwife was astounded at the care he received, as she said, it is a very busy department but they cared for him (and us) at a very high level. We never felt rushed in any way and the chaplain came and spent time with us.

Since then I have had occasion to have appointments for various things, the most recent was last Thursday when I had a steroid injection for a hip problem. All done with great efficiency and courtesy in the x-ray department.

Yes we do know that things go wrong at times - it has for us on occasions but I cannot fault the treatment my late husband had and the care taken with us his family.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on your family's experiences of our services.

We were saddened to learn of your husband's death last year, but were pleased to note that you and your family received a high standard of care and support from the hospital teams.

We know how important end of life care is not only for the patient themselves, but also for their loved ones and we have shared your kind comments with the teams involved.

We were also encouraged to learn of your positive experiences of attending hospital appointments and hope that any future appointments you attend go as well as your recent one.

Kind regards, The PALS Team.
