I returned to the U.K. after 20 years in France and needing a 1-year follow-up to an
oophorectomy conducted there and secured an appointment at Q.A.without problem. On
1/10/15 I had a consultation with a Gynaecologist and an immediate blood test. On 15/10/15 a quickly arranged CT Scan. On 12/11/15,a consultation with a surgeon who arranged a hysteroscopy for the 19/11/15. A polyp was removed at that time. On 23/12/15 I had a final consultation - all clear.
Having read the negative publicity surrounding the NHS I was concerned about waiting times and standards especially after several years of excellent treatment in France.
In the event I need not have worried. I was impressed by the professionalism and thoroughness of all the medical and nursing staff I encountered. The speed of action (c.3 months from start to finish) was as good as could sensibly be expected. I was kept well informed at all stages. Altogether,a good experience tempered with relief.
My only negatives would be:- some unnecessarily long waits at the hospital;some errors in administration (correspondence and internal organisation);ridiculous carpark costs made worse by waiting times. I was not impressed with the use of agency labour. In my brief experience a waste of funds - untrained, inexperienced and non-contributory.
However, I repeat that in respect of what matters, the manner in which and the efficiency with which I was treated, I was well pleased.
I would add that the whole of my working life was spent in hospital laboratories (including Q.A.) so I am familiar with the scene.
