"Surgery for Colon cancer"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

I had to have colorectal surgery performed by a brilliant team. After surgery I was taken to the new HDU unit which I understand to be on a trail basis until the end of March. The points I would like to raise is firstly I understand that this is an extra cost to nhs Boston but when a unit enables more hdu care and therefore gives the capacity for more procedures this must surely be a cost saving, also with a dedicated support of specialized nurses the recovery time is much quicker enabling the patients to be moved to a general ward and then to discharge much quicker freeing up the system. My surgeon and their dedicated team are putting everything into this trail and as proof of a system thats working

I can hope that this is seen by everyone who can support this in everyway and if any outside support to this end can be given please advise, very best regards.

Response from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Dear Moira,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your feedback on the site. I am pleased that you felt your Level 1 HDU stay was a good experience.

This has been a 12 week project to look at the requirements of Level 1 care, which has been a great success.

Once again thank you for your feedback.

Debbie Connolly,

Senior Sister, Intensive Care, Pilgrim
