As an American living in Alnwick for 25 years, I can honestly say that most Americans have no idea how wonderful a service we have with the NHS - expertise without the crippling costs. As it still is, most Americans can't have that. But thanks to the NHS, both my husband and I can. And we have had it over the years both in the Newcastle hospitals in general and in our own Alnwick Infirmary in particular. This very much goes for the Alnwick Infirmary Casualty Department team, as well, as there have been times when both my husband and I, as well as visiting friends, have sought them out. And each time in all our experience, no matter how tired they might be, they have been absolutely wonderful - thorough, kind and reassuring. I guess I'm lucky to have lived on both sides of the Atlantic: Maybe it takes that for both Americans and British alike, coming from two entirely different experiences, to appreciate just how lucky we are here in the UK

Many thanks for this review. We have only recently been notified by NHS Choices of your post but I see your comments relate to December last year ? Please forgive me - the time to respond is much longer than I would have liked.

Your celebration of the NHS is very much appreciated. Like you, I am a big fan and have been very proud to have worked for the health service all my life : there is something very special about honouring our fundemental right to access healthcare free and at the point of delivery.

I'm so glad your experience of services across the North East over the last 25 yrs has been such a positive one. Thanks in particular for your lovely tribute to our team in Alnwick - I know just how much it will mean to them to read your kind words and know that their hard work and committed is valued so much.
