"Tale of different shifts and departments"

My wife and I came in to the hospital on Thursday night to give birth to our first child. In the labour ward the staff were amazing and supported my wife and I through a 25 minute labour.

The staff acted superbly and with impeccable standards.

However when my wife was moved to Rowan ward at 4am she felt lonely and like no one was there to support her. As I was only allowed to escorts her up it would hav been nice if a member of staff had spent 5/10 minutes to sit with her as she was still in a bit of shock at the speed of labour.

The next morning when I arrived she was still a bit shocked and hadn't slept at all.

Throughout the day though the staff were really helpful and supported her start to try breastfeeding. This proved really hard as she was tongue tied.

Fran persevered throughout the day and was starting to get really upset and the staff didn't really seem to bother.

When I came in the next morning Fran jad decided to use formula which I supported.

Unfortunately this seemed to mean the staff seemed to stop looking to support her as much as they had previously.

For her 2nd bottle she was given an orthodontic teat which she really struggled with, we told 1 member of staff who jut said keep at it. When we spoke to another member of staff they said for a baby who is tongue tied this teat is not ideal. This was poor subject knowledge.

For breastfeeding Fran had been given a pack on how to do it and it was not until we left and I remembered to ask we were given a pack on bottle feeding. When we got home thus was really useful but should have been given to us when we Dec to bottle feed. To summarise as soon as we stopped breastfeeding the support stopped.

This does also make me question the provision for patients after midnight on a Friday night and over the weekend.

Not once when on Rowan Ward did a staff member ask my wife had she washed herself, kept her hygiene levels up. Surely after going through labour patients should be reminded regularly to wash themselves.
