My 83 year old mum was transferred to Winchester A & E from Andover A & E by ambulance following a blackout and head injury on Monday lunchtime 22/2/16.
Upon arrival we joined several others in a trolley queue in the corridor, and this was where we were based for the next few hours – far from ideal.
The care she received however, from all the staff working under extremely difficult circumstances was exceptional.
Everyone, the paramedics, HALO team and the doctor who looked after her through our stay were fantastic. So sympathetic and kind, despite the surroundings they had to work in.
Mum had numerous tests and after each one she was wheeled back to our parking slot in the corridor. At all times she was treated with dignity and respect by all the staff who were looking after her. Her main point of contact was one of the HALO team, who was lovely with mum and made sure she was always ok whilst we were left waiting.
In our opinion she couldn’t have been looked after better, despite the conditions that all the staff were forced to work in.
By the time we left, the corridor had 10 trolleys of people that had come by ambulance and there were ambulances outside with patients that they couldn’t get into the hospital.
What’s happened to our NHS!!
Mum’s asked that I post this review on her behalf and to say thank you to all the staff that were involved in her care there. They are a credit to the hospital.
