"The staff are marvellous"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

My husband and I were both in the hospital at the beginning of February. For different things and in different wards. I was in the surgical ward and the staff could not have been better or more caring.

My husband was in the diabetic ward (and is blind) and by and large the staff were very good, but he found one or two were unacceptably rude. No empathy at all. On the other hand one or two were absolute stars. He says that they could all benefit from a good deal of organisation training. At times they were very muddled, but he feels that at all times they were doing their best, giving the staff constraints they were suffering from.

Every afternoon they found a porter to bring him by wheelchair to my ward, so that we could spend a half-hour or so together. As we are both in our mid-80s and have been married over 61 years this caused us to give the hospital several gold stars!

Thank you Stoke Mandeville hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience when both you and your husband were patients at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. It is good to read that you felt you had received a high standard of care when you were on the surgical ward, as did your husband generally by and large, when on the diabetic ward.

I am so sorry to read however that your husband felt that one or two of the nurses were unacceptably rude, and lacking in empathy. I can understand how unsettling this must have been, and we are concerned to learn that this was your husband's experience of Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust's service.

If you or your husband are happy to share more detail about this experience with us, please contact our dedicated Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01296 316042 or email PALS@buckshealthcare.nhs.uk
