"What a farce - waste of resources and money -..."

My partner attended A&E in the early hours of Friday Feb 19th following an accident at work which resulted in a dislocated shoulder ( the shoulder was back in place following him blacking out with pain before reaching the hospital ) After having an X-ray and confirmation the shoulder was back in place he was sent away with a sling, advised to rest and asked to attend an appointment at the Fracture clinic for a follow up.

This was booked for Monday Feb 22nd at 8.30am. My partner requested the appointment be made at Kings Mill Hospital as its nearer to where we live and its where he had reconstructive shoulder surgery for the same thing 16 years ago. He was told he couldn't be sent to Kings Mill as he had attended A&E at Queens Med?

We attended the Fracture Clinic ( not on your list of departments? ) yesterday - Monday Feb 22nd where he was seen by Doctor that looked at his X- ray from A&E and his shoulder, asked him to do some movement tests and advised he needing referring a shoulder specialist to check for any damage internally he may have suffered and if further surgery was necessary. He would need an MRI. We asked again could he be referred to Kings Mill due to us not living in the area and his history with his shoulder. We were advised this was not possible but he could write to our GP and send notes from his attendance at Queens Med along with the X Ray advising the GP refer him to a specialist at Kings Mill Hospital. He would need to make an appointment with his GP for them to examine him also and make the referral.

We managed to get an emergency GP appointment for today Tuesday Feb 23rd ( not easy at our doctors at all as usually 2 weeks what for an appointment! ) .

His GP has not received anything from Queens Med regarding whats happened but luckily was very understanding and knows my partners history so has referred him as an urgent case to see a shoulder specialist and to have an MRI as they feel the sooner this happens the less likely there be complications with the injury and his previous surgery if damage has been caused.

What a complete farce - waste of public money - doctors time and appointments that were quite frankly a waste of our time and money getting there.

The whole system is ridiculous - surely anyone attending A&E within an NHS Hospital should be able to get a referral to the correct person at any NHS Hospital near to them and notes shared between hospitals without all this messing about?!

Its been nearly 5 days since the accident and still we are none the wiser as to any damage to his shoulder / what happens next despite being seen by 3 doctors!
