"My dad was a patient in the HDU. ..."

About: Lister Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My dad was a patient in the HDU. He was very ill and recieved wonderfull care. The doctors and nurses made sure I was kept fully informed about him and they stayed on top of his problems. The ward was spotless and the patients clean and comfortable. They worked togetherand nothing was to much trouble for them.

What could be improved

Unfortunetly it was dads long delay before his emergency surgery that caused the complications that led to this second operation that preceded his heart attack. Staff should talk to families and keep them informed of the patients condition when the patient is elderly, hard of hearing and has dementia

Thank you for your kind words about the staff on the Lister's high dependency unit - known by many as its HDU. We know that they will be grateful for such positive feedback.

Your comments about his emergency surgery are noted and improved communications with patients and/or their families and carers is one area on which we are concentrating particularly moving forward. This is because of the importance attached to it by patients - as highlighted in your case.
