"I was made to feel like an inconvenience"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Ophthalmology Retford Hospital

(as the patient),

After seeing a Ophthalmologist at Retford Hospital, which is a brilliant place with amazing polite helpful staff who did very through tests I was told I needed an urgent MRI scan, eye prescription and to see neuro.

The next day at around 4pm I recieved a phone call from Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The person who rang gave very little information and said could I get there straight away but I was not to drive myself. I explained I would have to try to get someone to drive me and they gave me a phone number to ring back, this number did not work!

After arriving at DRI I found the eye clinic and was met by very rude, abrupt unhelpful staff. No information as to what was happening or what appointment this was. I was taken to a room drops put into my eyes and then shown a book with numbers in then told to wait. My vision was blurred and I was left to wander around to try to find where to wait. After 10 minutes of wandering, using the wall to help as I could not see properly, I found the waiting area. After waiting here for a while my vision cleared and I went to find someone to see if I was waiting in the right place. I found 4 members of eye clinic staff sat talking who told me to wait down the corridor - I was made to feel like I had asked for the world!

After 5 minutes I was called in to see a Doctor. Again rude, abruptness asked questions and did not listen to the answers, I felt like they were rushing and basically I felt like the doctor could not be bothered. The Doctor just looked into my eyes and then said I could go! No tests, no explanation, just said they had had no field of vision information so could not do anything. I know for a fact all the test information and the field of vision test information was sent to them - Retford Hospital did numerous tests including a field of vision.

I am now left with the continuing headaches and stabbing pains through my eyes which I have had for 2 years, no knowledge of what is happening regarding treatment and no idea of why I ended up at a eye clinic who did less tests than a high street optician. No appointment for an MRI scan has come through and no letters or information as what I am supposed to do.

From visiting a very professional, through, friendly hospital, Retford Hospital, I went to Doncaster Royal Infirmary and found the staff I met unhelpful, they acted like the could not care less, no information was given and made to feel like I was an inconvenience. What a disgrace to the NHS and the staff that do actually care about their jobs and patients.

After the care I was put through at Doncaster Royal Infirmary I have no faith in this hospital or feel you can say anything that can justify the way I was treated. I place my trust in Retford Hospital and my GP whom treat people with respect and explain what is happening.
