I was admitted to Birch Ward in late December 2015, not even two months on and I am now back at home. This stay on Birch was not my first and although the consultant psych, dietician and therapists were all excellent in their respective fields - the nursing assistants were lacking. Many seemed to lack compassion and abused their power. During my short stay I requested more support but was in fact given less each time I asked. It became overwhelming for me to be begging for help whilst inpatient but receiving none. Due to how distressing it was becoming for me I had to discharge myself, leaving treatment which was and is necessary. I am now back in the same position I was in before admission. The care I received was far from acceptable and has actually had a negative impact on my recovery. Better nursing assistants are needed on Birch!
