"First class service from start to finish."

I would like to commend all staff on duty yesterday in children's a&e, ENT, children's ward 37 and theatre staff.

I had to bring my 3 year old to a&e yesterday as he decided to put sweets in his ears, one in each! All staff in a&e were friendly and professional, the children's a &he was busy as expected but staff were kind and nothing was too much trouble to make sure my son was kept calm and engaged at what was probably a scary experience. One sweet proved stubborn to get out but staff persevered and the ENT dr seemed to come very quickly and we were taken to the ENT department to use facilities there. The sweet was still not budging so the ENT team decided to schedule my son for a quick theatre slot as there was no room on the list in the week.

At all stages I was kept informed and involved in decisions. I am a health professional myself but being there as a mum is always different of course and I felt at all times that we were the only patient that mattered even though I know they are juggling 20 things at once.

We were transferred to the children's ward where again the nurses were excellent and facilities wonderful. The play area is amazing and kept my little boy occupied while waiting for theatre. We went down to theatre at around 8.30pm and we had been seen by the anaesthetist on the ward before this. The theatre nurse who collected my son was amazing and made him smile and kept his mind off what was to come. I was allowed in the prep room and tried to keep my son calm. Again all staff in theatre were excellent, nothing was too much trouble the Consultant Anaesthetist and ENT surgeon were excellent and nothing was too much trouble even at this late hour.

We were able to bring our son home late yesterday night thankfully with troublesome sweetie removed and he is fine if a little sleepy today, but I just wanted to say thank you very much to everyone.

My Dad was also in the cardiac ward via a&e before Christmas and again the service was second to none. It is very reassuring to have you on our doorstep.
