"Having a pacemaker/ICD implanted"

About: Hairmyres Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

After having had the last of 4 heart attacks in October 2014, I was fitted with a Pacemaker/ICD in Hairmyres Hospital.

I attend the Cardiology Department in the same hospital for checks on the Device and have nothing but good to say about the treatment I receive. The ladies who carry out the checks treat me with the greatest of respect, are caring and work in a very professional way.

The ICD has shocked me 7 times on 4 different occasions and although it is a wee bit frightening at the time the ladies are reassuring in that the device is working properly and doing it's job.

Thank you to all the medical staff who work in the Cardiology Department of Hairmyres Hospital as without the expertise of you all I doubt that I would be here to tell my story.

They explain everything they are doing in layman's terms and answer any question that I may pose no matter how trivial.

Dear Roberto

Thank you for your positive feedback in relation to your care within the cardiology department at Hairmyres Hospital. I appreciate this must be very worrying and “frightening” at times for you. We aim to deliver safe, effective person centred care at all times and it is great to receive your feedback that we are achieving this aim.

I am also delighted that the communication in relation to your care and associated treatment has been of a good standard.

Thanks for taking time to send your feedback; I will ensure that your kind comments are passed to all the relevant staff.

Best Wishes

Anne Leitch
