"Discusting experience children's a&e"

About: Lister Hospital

We arrived at children's a and e with our 7 week old baby. We got seen by triage nurse pretty quick. Our baby had chronic dirreah. We then waited about 2hrs to see a Dr who proceeded to tell us our baby was fine and carry on with the milk we were on (which is a disgrace as she has since been diagnosed with a milk allergy) and asking why we were there 4 times after being sent by our gp we didn't have a letter. The doctor left us in a room for 20 mins while they called our gp and came back and reluctantly said we can see a paediatrician which we only got to see due to my partners persistence. We then sat back in waiting room for 3 hrs and got taken into a smaller waiting area where we sat for another hr. We had then been there 7 hrs, I then asked a nurse if they could help me and explained the situation, they did help and put us in a treatment room that was freezing and had the air con continously on. We saw a paediatric Dr pretty quick who was fantastic, gave a stool and urine samples then waited another 4 and a half hrs to see another Dr. All in all a 13 hr stint in hospital with a newborn we were running out of milk we got through 10 nappies and had to strongly insist we need help while our poor baby pooed out water. It then was confirmed that our baby had a milk intolerance and since an allergy, we were told to pick up a prescription the next day, and the prescription was lost!!! I do understand there are more urgent cases but this was disgraceful I will be taking this further with Pals

We're sorry that you are so unhappy with the care you received from us and fully understand how frustrating (not to mention worrying) this situation must have been for you.

Of course, you are very welcome to speak to our PALs team or, if you prefer, you can email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net and we can ask one of our senior nurses to look into what happened.
