I am aware of the problems faced by the hospital but feel I must give praise and thanks to the dedicated and hard working staff who cared for me in A & E, AMU and ward 12. I arrived by ambulance with suspected blood clots. A & E was very busy but staff worked hard to manage the situation despite constantly changing priorities, queues, a lack of beds, frightened people, some demanding families (I counted twelve people insisting on remaining with one patient), a difficult drunk and crying children. A typical evening in A & E.
Despite all of this, the staff remained reassuring, caring and professional. Special praise for the Medical Registrar and the Sister on duty both of whom did a brilliant job of orchestrating everything.
Praise too for the staff on AMU and Ward 12; despite staff shortages I could not fault their care of patients. They are hard working, kind, cheery, approachable, well trained and dedicated; exactly what nursing staff should be.
In such a busy hospital delays are inevitable and it appears to be under-resourced for the demand on its services but the staff I encountered trying hard to keep up standards. Thank you very much.
