"Filthy Childrens waiting area in A&E"
About: Macclesfield District General Hospital Macclesfield District General Hospital Macclesfield SK10 3BL
I attended A&E with my 13 month old little boy today after being referred by ambulance by 111.
The department was extremely busy and so I can not fault the medical staff but I am left in shock at the standards of hygiene in the department.
On arrival at hospital we were seen by a nurse who was very good with my little boy and we were then shown to the Childrens waiting room to wait to see a doctor.
This is where the problems started.
The room immediately smelt from the over flowing nappy bin in the changing room, the floor had fresh blood splatterings on it and there was dried on blood on a few of the toys, the rest of the floor was just plain dirty, I can not imagine that it had seen a brush and mop for a while, the toys were grubby and mums were desperately trying to wipe them with baby wipes before the children handled them.
I asked for the blood to be cleaned from the floor as there were several children playing there, it took almost 20 minutes for it to be wiped up and even then it was only spot cleaned, the rest of the floor and toys remained filthy.
Like I say, this review is no reflection on the medical staff who seemed extremely busy and were great with my little boy, but the hospital needs to look into the cleanliness of this area and the cleaning staff who maintain it.
