"Traumatic post surgery experience yet excellent..."

About: The Royal London Hospital

I stayed in ward 8c after an operation and have been really traumatised waking up in the middle of the night from a general anaesthetic, having no idea where any of my things were . The nurses at best ignored me and at worst I felt told off - for not pressing the pain relief button enough ( I pressed it when I needed ) and felt I was disturbing them by pressing the call button. I begged for a phone to ring my husband but typing in his number with that many Painkillers running through me was impossible . I got no help . I didn't feel I was treated kindly or as a human with emotions and needs .

The doctors and consultants on the other hand were wonderful . They were very professional , warm and appeared competent in a way that made me trust what they do. They did treat me in a much nicer way than the night team. My stay improved and I did meet some nicer nurses and health care assistants who were very supportive.

The food needs to improve . It is bland, uninspiring and not really that nutritious . Why not have some fresher, tastier dishes or things like smoothies that are easier to consume and full of vitamins ? I don't enjoy eating the kind of food served when I do have appetite never mind when I'm trying to get my appetite back !

On the whole a mixed experience . Seriously the first night has left me traumatised but big thumbs up to the gynae team

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear of your experience on ward 8C. It must have been very upsetting and worrying for you waking up like this following your operation. We would like to look into the concerns you have raised here in more detail. We would need you to provide us with more information about your care. Please contact the PALS Team on 020 3594 2040 or by email pals@bartshealth.nhs.uk

All patient feedback is important to us as we use this to make improvements to our services where possible. Your comments have been sent over to the Gynae team so that they are able to see them. We have also shared this with the Catering Team so that they can take into account your comments about the hospital meals.

Kind regards
