My mother if 91 was refferred to.hospital by her GP on Friday 12th February with suspected fluid on her lungs/breathing difficulties. She arrived at the medical assessment unit at 2-30 approx. She was sent for an x-ray and my sister was told she would be having blood tests and an ECG.When I arrived at 7pm she was still sat in a chair in a small waiting area, and she told us that apart from x-ray she had not had bloods taken or an ECG.My sister had phoned about 4-30 and been told that these had been done and they were awaiting the results, this was obviously an untruth.I sought outba doctor and asked them why mum was still waiting for the tests .The doctor was very apologetic and blamed it on a lack of communication and staff shortages and said they would now treat it as priority.I.am appalled that my mother of 91 had to sit in a chair for 5hrs and 30.mins before she eventually got her bloods and ECG taken .We then had to sit with her a further hour before we got the results. She was admitted that night, she is frail and was totally exhausted by the whole experience. This sort of service is totally unacceptable in 2016.There appeard to be a total lack of communication between staff and even less between staff and patients.
